Our Story

What inspired us?

My name is Ernst Terje, and in 2020, I founded Canal Boats Telemark, driven by a desire to create something meaningful in Porsgrunn—my home town. I wanted to share the beauty of one of the world’s most stunning waterways, right on our doorstep.

Growing up in Kragerø, my love for boats and being on the water started early. As a 16-year-old, my friend and I spent entire summers on a speed boat, and from then on, boating was a big part of my life. Like many Norwegian families, my family owned a boat, but my passion grew stronger as I explored it on my own.

At 30, I bought my first 34 ft boat, and at 46, after retiring, I embarked on the adventure of a lifetime aboard the Princess V46. My goal was simple: to sail from Norway to the Mediterranean, following Europe’s canal system.

The journey turned into the best holiday of my life, and after four years and four months, I returned with unforgettable memories.
This experience led to the creation of Canal Boats Telemark – the electric yacht charter company, where we now share the same sense of adventure and love for boating with others.

OUR BASE

Our base is located in Porsgrunn, Telemark. Reach us:

35 minutes by car or train from Oslo Torp Airport (TRF)
2 hours by car or train from Oslo Gardermoen Airport (OSL)
Via the E18 motorway if you are coming from the ferry ports in Kristiansand, Larvik, or Sandefjord

Marina is located by the riverside in the city center,
just 5 minutes walking distance from the train station.
The office is located 150 m from the marina.
You will find all the necessary facilities on-site, along with shops and other services nearby.
